Swimming pool sizes

So you want a new pool but don’t know where to start. It can feel overwhelming! But if you work with a trusted professional, they should be able to guide you through the process. One of the questions you’ll need to consider early on is how big of a swimming pool you want or even need.

Purpose of your pool

Believe it or not, swimming pools end up being used in a number of ways. Some people like to simply sit out in the sun and take the occasional dip. Others like to use the pool for exercise like swimming laps or doing water aerobics. Many others use their pools for social activities and group fun!

How you plan to use your pool affects what size you should purchase.

If you’re in the market for a pool you can exercise in, you’ll need to cover a large ground area to swim quality laps; somewhere around 30 feet long. Will children be using your pool? You’ll need to be sure to account for a shallow end.

If you’re planning on having friends and family over, breaking out the grill, or using an outdoor cooking and patio area, then you need to plan based on that. Not only will that affect the size of your pool but your sitting area as well.

These are all things you can talk about with your pool builder.

Limiting factors

One major constraint people run into is money. As your pool grows in size, the investment amount also grows. The dollar amount for installation, maintenance, water bill, electric bill, and repairs are all affected. Knowing your budget is a key part of deciding how large your swimming pool will be.

The size of your yard is the other huge constraint. There are often solutions to not being able to dig in certain areas, but you generally don’t want to sacrifice the landscape much just to get a larger pool. And there may be underground concerns as well.

Obviously there are other factors as well. If you do want to get professional help, feel free to reach out. We would be glad to help you determine what size pool makes the most sense for you.
