Your swimming pool has been closed for months, but now it’s time to prepare it for pool season. This process is called opening your pool, and it’s an exciting time of year for pool owners. But what exactly is involved in opening your pool?

When to open

March is the earliest we recommend opening a pool in Oklahoma. Any earlier in the year and you run the risk of exposing your pool to freezing weather.

How to open

The steps we follow in opening a pool include removing and storing the pool cover, refilling water drained during the closing process, cleaning debris out of the pool, and measuring and balancing the chemical levels.

We will also reinstall the drains plugs and turn the pumps back on to ensure everything is working correctly.

Handling problems

We try to make everything go as smoothly as possible when opening a pool. Unfortunately, sometimes things can go wrong. The pool may have been closed improperly or the winter may have been especially problematic for your pool.

Whatever happens, we will fix it. Small problems can be reconciled right there on the spot. For larger issues, a second appointment may need to be scheduled to make sure we have the proper tools. These second appointments can be the same day or same week.

Late freezes

March isn’t the warmest month of the year, so there is a chance that the temperature could drop below freezing. If this happens, we recommend calling us to come check on the pool. You should not try to handle this on your own.

We put freeze protection in the pools we build to help protect against any late freezes. Your pool will probably be fine if everything is left running when the water starts to freeze, but give us a call to check on your pool to be sure.

Why ask a professional?

People open their pools by themselves all the time. It should be noted, however, that we’re experts. If anything goes wrong in the process, we will know how to fix it and will do so immediately. Larger problems may need a separate appointment to handle, but all-in-all, your risk is much lower when we open your pool.
